Adjusting the cutting length on your BTD firewood processor

With a BTD PROcompact, PROcompact-S or PROplus, you can easily determine the exact cutting length of your firewood.
Whether you cut standard logs of 25 or 33 cm or prefer custom dimensions – the adjustable cutting-length system ensures perfectly sized results every time.

How does the cutting-length adjustment work?

Every BTD firewood processor features an simple length measuring system, adjustable via the machine display.
This allows you to select any cutting length between 23 and 50 cm, with a precision of 1 cm.

The system works in both manual mode and the automatic sawing-and-splitting cycle.

  • Cutting length adjustment via display
  • Pulse counter for precise length measurement
  • Mechanical stop for anti-tilt safety on short pieces

Why is this important?

The correct cutting length:

  • Prevents short logs from tipping in combination with the anti-tilt stop
  • Available for standard firewood dimensions (25, 30, 33, 50 cm) or custom sizes
  • Boosts processing capacity (more pieces per cycle) with the SHORT/LONG mode
  • Improves stacking efficiency and speeds up drying

The SHORT/LONG function (optional)

For operators who frequently cut shorter lengths (23–35 cm), the optional SHORT/LONG function is a powerful upgrade.
It shortens the stroke of the splitting cylinder, increasing output capacity by up to 20%.

Advantages of SHORT/LONG:

  • Faster cycle time for small logs
  • Lower hydraulic load

Higher hourly production capacity

This option is available on PROcompact, PROcompact-S and PROplus and is controlled via the PLC system.

Tips for optimal cutting performance

  • Use the mechanical stop for logs shorter than 30 cm to prevent tipping.
  • In combination with a robust log clamp, the logs are cut square and evenly, ensuring a smooth feed-through.
  • The lowering speed of the saw blade is controlled automatically, but can be further adjusted by the operator if desired, for cutting hardwood
