How does a firewood processor work?

A firewood processor combines several stages of firewood production in one process. Depending on the machine and working conditions, the process is as follows:

1. Log infeed: the log is fed into the machine and positioned.
2. Cutting: the log is cut to the selected firewood length.
3. Splitting: the cut section is pushed through the splitting knife and split into several pieces.
4. Discharge: the processed firewood is discharged for further handling, storage or transport.

Because sawing and splitting take place in one workflow, a single operator can process large quantities of firewood. Production capacity depends on factors including the machine model, the timber, log diameter and the selected cutting and splitting method.

Attachment firewood processor or mobile firewood processor?

An important consideration is how the firewood processor is powered and used. BTD offers two different concepts.

Attachment firewood processor

An attachment firewood processor is connected to a suitable carrier vehicle and uses the vehicle’s hydraulic system for power. This allows the machine to be used with, for example, an excavator, loader, tractor or another suitable carrier vehicle.

The BTD PROcompact, PROcompact-S and PROplus are designed according to this principle. The advantage is that an existing carrier vehicle can be used not only to power the machine, but also to position and move it.

Mobile firewood processor

The BTD TrailerPlus-M has its own drive and hydraulic system and is therefore not dependent on the hydraulic capacity of a carrier vehicle for production.

The machine is built on a trailer chassis and is equipped with its own 40 hp Briggs & Stratton petrol engine with EFI and its own hydraulic triple-pump system. This allows the complete machine to be transported between different work locations and operated independently on site.
