Why was the TrailerPlus-M developed?

The TrailerPlus-M was developed in response to questions and practical experience from customers already using our PROplus. They were looking for the same robust, simple and well-engineered technology with high capacity, but as a completely self-contained machine that could easily be transported between different work sites, with road transport at speeds of up to 80 km/h.

We therefore used the PROplus as the technical basis and combined it with its own drive system and a specially developed tandem trailer chassis for road transport at speeds of up to 80 km/h. The result is the TrailerPlus-M: a complete mobile firewood processor that does not depend on a tractor, excavator, loader or other carrier vehicle for its drive.

From PROplus to a self-contained mobile machine

The PROplus was developed as a powerful attachment firewood processor for professional firewood production. It uses the hydraulic system of a suitable carrier vehicle for its drive.

In practice, users expressed a need for the same robust sawing and splitting technology in a machine that could operate independently and be transported easily between different work sites.

When developing the TrailerPlus-M, BTD therefore did not have to start from scratch. The proven technology and practical experience gained with the PROplus formed the basis. This technology was then further developed into a self-contained mobile production unit with its own drive system, hydraulic system and chassis.

In this way, the TrailerPlus-M combines the experience gained with the professional PROplus with the freedom to work without requiring a separate carrier vehicle as the machine’s power source.

Independent drive and hydraulic system

The TrailerPlus-M has its own 40 hp Briggs & Stratton petrol engine with electronic fuel injection (EFI) and an integrated hydraulic triple-pump system. The engine, hydraulics and controls form one complete unit together with the firewood processor.

This means that no external hydraulic connections from a tractor, excavator or loader are required to power the machine at the work site. Once the TrailerPlus-M has been correctly and safely set up, firewood production can begin independently.

This is particularly practical for users who regularly work at different locations or who want to keep their tractor, excavator, loader or other equipment available for other work during firewood production.

Mobility and road transport at up to 80 km/h

When developing the TrailerPlus-M, mobility meant more than simply creating a machine that could be moved. The aim was to develop a professional firewood processor that could be transported efficiently by road between different work sites.

For this reason, a specially developed tandem trailer chassis designed for road speeds of up to 80 km/h was chosen. With a total weight of 2,500 kg, the TrailerPlus-M can be transported by a suitable towing vehicle, provided that the permitted towing capacity and applicable road regulations are met.

This enables a different working process compared with a machine that is primarily used at one fixed production site. The TrailerPlus-M can be taken to the location where the roundwood is available. After the work has been completed, the machine can be prepared for transport again and moved to the next work site.

The combination of professional production capacity and road transport at up to 80 km/h is therefore an important part of the TrailerPlus-M concept.

Wood discharge was also developed around the complete workflow

High production capacity is only useful if the processed firewood can also be discharged quickly and efficiently. For this reason, the development process focused not only on sawing and splitting, but on the complete workflow.

The TrailerPlus-M is equipped with a 5-metre-long and 60-cm-wide discharge conveyor. It can be hydraulically swivelled and reaches a discharge height of up to 2.80 metres. This makes it possible to load high-sided containers and trailers efficiently.

The wide discharge conveyor supports reliable wood discharge even when operating at high production capacity. Because the conveyor can be hydraulically swivelled into the required position, the discharge can also be adapted to the conditions at the work site.

Professional processing capacity in a mobile concept

The TrailerPlus-M combines this mobile concept with professional processing performance. The machine provides a splitting force of up to 20 tonnes, processes logs with a diameter of up to approximately 45 cm and achieves a practical production capacity of approximately 5–10 m³ of firewood per hour under normal conditions.

Actual production capacity depends on factors such as wood species, log diameter, log shape, cutting length, splitting knife configuration and the organisation of log feeding and discharge.

Proven technology combined with mobile operation

With the TrailerPlus-M, BTD has not simply placed an existing firewood processor on a trailer. Practical experience with the PROplus formed the basis for a new overall concept combining independent drive, professional production capacity, road transport at up to 80 km/h and efficient wood discharge.

The result is a complete mobile firewood processor for professional users who want to produce firewood at different locations without depending on a separate carrier vehicle to power the machine.
